Letβs Talk About Stress
Now that the Holidayβs have passed and school is back in session and weβre getting back to our usual routines, we can get back to our regularly scheduled βnormalβ stress levels as opposed to our heightened βHoliday Stressβ levels.
Itβs been a STRESSFUL couple of months. As a business owner. As a mom. (As a mom whoβs teens are also having difficult human experiences). And as a human myself.
The reason that I preach βself-careβ so loudly is because I understand what itβs like to be bogged down with overwhelm and stress and want to curl into a ball and hibernate till the stressful situations have magically resolved themselves! π¬ (I wish!)
But they donβt! We have to deal with the stressful events, and you MUST continue to take care of yourself despite them, and especially because of them.
My βproblem areaβ is the left side of my neck and upper traps down into my scapula. Thatβs where I hold my stress and tension.
ππΎIf I βsleep wrong,β there it is!
ππΎIf it was a bad day at school, there it is.
ππΎIf some work related thing is stressing me out.. There it is.
ππΎIf emotions are high, you guessed it! There. It. Is!
Because of these, (and other issues like chronic lower back pain), I commit to getting a barefoot massage treatment 2-3 times per month. That is just what works for me in order to decompress mentally and physically.
Ashiatsu has been a major part of my healing journey.
But also, going to the gym 6-7 days a week. Going on hikes a couple times a month. Putting together puzzles. Meditation. Eating healthy. And a whole slew of activities to help nurture my mind and body.
I probably donβt stretch as much as I should. π¬
(Donβt tell my therapist!)π€«
What Iβm getting at is that just doing one thing occasionally, like getting a massage once in a while, or going to the gym sometimes, or eating healthy once a year just isnβt enough to achieve optimum results. It will feel good in the moment, but it isnβt enough for even mediocre results. I hate to be cliche, but consistency is the key!
I also know that life gets in the way. We become busy. Or stressed. Overwhelmed. Anxious. And then we stopped taking care of ourselves.
Letβs NOT do that! Letβs make 2024 the year where we remember to add ourselves to our never-ending βto-doβ list. Better yet, make YOURSELF a priority.π
I hope to see you under foot in 2024 and beyond! π£
