How does Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage work?

In the Japanese language 'Ashi' translates to foot and 'Atsu' into pressure. Ashiatsu Massage, or barefoot massage, is a deep tissue massage technique in which the therapist delivers deep, broad, consistent pressure utilizing their feet and body weight. Working with gravity instead of against it, Ashiatsu therapists are able to provide an effective therapeutic massage without causing pain or discomfort. Cream is applied to the client's body making this deep therapeutic massage fluid and relaxing. Parallel bars are used above the massage table for balance, support, and client safety.

Is Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage safe for everyone?

Due to the compressive nature of Ashiatsu barefoot massage, therapists must take extra precaution with certain client conditions. Contraindications include pregnancy or trying to conceive, high blood pressure, recent injuries or surgeries, contagious skin disorders, compromised immune system, acute liver or kidney disorders, certain medications, acute auto immune disorders, recent surgical implants, and advanced diabetes. A certified Deepfeet Therapist will have full knowledge of all contraindications for Ashiatsu and how to best address client needs.

What should I wear to my session?

An Ashiatsu massage session is best received when the client undresses completely. You may undress to your comfort level, but for a smooth and effective session, we need to be able to glide from head to toe without getting caught on fabric. You will always be properly draped with a sheet and blanket, and uncovered only on the area being worked — you will never be inappropriately exposed.

What's the difference between Ashiatsu and regular deep tissue massage?

Traditional deep tissue massage uses thumbs, knuckles, and elbows to work through muscle tension — which can feel sharp, pokey, and leave you sore. Ashiatsu barefoot massage delivers the same depth using the broad surface of the foot instead, which means the pressure is wider, more even, and goes deeper without triggering your body's pain response. Most clients who've had both say Ashiatsu gets to places traditional deep tissue never could, and they leave feeling relieved instead of beaten up.
